Lewandow's decision to abandon the national team recruitment in this issue has received a lot of criticism. Recently, Lewandowski defended his position in an interview with Polish media TVP Sport, which he believes is crucial to his future good performance in Barcelona and Polish national teams.
■ Regarding my decision to give up the national team recruitment decision
Lewandowski said: "I don't need to explain why I made this decision. Is this decision right? It was right at the moment when I made the decision. I believe my teammates can handle it in my absence. The team is not relying on me alone. I called the Polish coach because I wanted to talk to him honestly. I told him that I was in a bad state in physical and mental state. I was at a low point. I felt that I could not meet the level he had required to go to the national team."
" People don't know the whole story of the whole incident, they only see the surface of something and come to the wrong conclusions. Few people know what I've really experienced. Fans want to know everything, but it's impossible. With due respect for the media and journalists, none of you consider that there is mental fatigue, besides physical fatigue. Does anyone know how I feel? What's the best for me? I have my own thoughts, and at the time I thought it would be worth it to give up this call for next season and the World Cup in the coming World Cup."
■ In August this year, Lewandowski will turn 37, and he admitted that he must take good care of himself to extend his career.
"I know I won't have too many opportunities to play at the same level as this season, to win the Champions League and maintain such a competitive level. I know not everyone must agree with my decision or give me a high evaluation, but there should always be respect."
■ Lewandowski also pointed out the contradictions of recent criticism
"I remember when I started a game as a substitute a while ago, people asked, 'Why didn't he play starter?' Later, I played in a game with less importance and was injured, and the question turned on: 'Why did he play on the court?'" He added: "With due respect for the media and experts, if I had only listened to you, I would have withdrawn from this national team. I played soccer just for the fans. They have supported me for years, and I was mainly for them and my family."
■ Lewandowski believes that negative remarks are flying everywhere, but it has not affected him. "I have learned that if you don't distance yourself from these negative remarks, it will be difficult to stay at the highest level. I never care about making everyone like me. I don't have daily contact with journalists. I've stayed away from all this. It's not easy to carry the expectations of more than 40 million people over the years. Sometimes I need a break."
