Real Madrid midfielder Valverde talked about his new role under head coach Xavi Alonso and his views on the current situation of the team.
You have a lot of playing time this season and you have almost no rest. Has this fatigue combined with the changes in the role on the field affected your performance?
Under Alonso, my position was restricted and I was getting closer and closer to Joan Améni, so I had no room to fly on the side road. I no longer have the chance to sprint back and forth like I did when I was under Ancelotti. In the past, we did participate more in the offense and play more crazier. After all, this is a different way of playing.
How do you view this new challenge Alonso gave you?
I accept this challenge. My goal is to work hard to work with Joan Améni and try to control the midfield. Indeed, I like to plug in the attack from the second line. I think that was when I felt the best, the most comfortable, the most free time.
What do you think the team needs to improve at the moment? The team performed well, but there was still something to polish. I have a very tacit understanding between Kavajal and I. When he plugs in, I need to make up for Kavajal. Over the past few years, we have created very good offenses through many collaborations with each other and won numerous Champions League titles, but we have to continue to polish those things in a good way. ”
After Arnold's injury, are you willing to play right back position?
Well, I've had many conversations with the coach and he knows what I really want. At the end of the day, I think I have to continue to get opportunities in my position. I think we've done a great job and won a lot of games. I feel so happy in the midfield.
