"L'Ouest de France" reported that a fierce conflict broke out between fans of Nantes and Rennes in Rennes from Friday to Saturday night. Members of the Rennes extreme football fan organization Roazhon Celtic Kop (hereinafter referred to as RCK) were attacked by Nantes fans on their way back from Paris. The conflict quickly led to the intervention of the police and the arrest of six people.
Last weekend, after Rennes defeated Paris FC 1-0, RCK members set off to return to Brittany. Their bus arrived at the Royan Park parking lot at around 4 a.m. It is claimed that around fifty masked Nantes Ultra fans ambushed them there.
As soon as the bus stopped, a fierce fight broke out, forcing the police to intervene to stop the conflict and use tear gas to disperse the participants. The Rennes Police Department said: "This was obviously a premeditated and prepared action."
The escaping attackers were located shortly after in the parking lot of the Rennes training base Pivertier, where their vehicles were parked. There was another brief confrontation with the police before the men left the scene, and the entire operation lasted about fifteen minutes.
Six Nantes fans were arrested and detained at the Rennes central police station. Police have launched an investigation to establish the circumstances of the attack. No weapons have been found and no injuries have been officially reported, but police said some minor injuries were being handled by their respective groups.
After Nantes lost to Rennes in April, Rennes fans launched similar conflicts in Nantes.
